***NEW INFORMATION! We are working with the Environmental Service Learning initiative at Mission High to green the event.  Please consider these recommendations:

  • bring your own utensils for lunch
  • take public transportation (visit http://www.511.org to plan your trip)
  • make sure to sort any waste at waste-stations at the conference
  • if you are interested in helping with composting and other efforts to make this event more green, please contact amslersf@yahoo.com to volunteer

LOCATION:  Mission High School is located at 3750 18th Street in San Francisco.  For a map/directions to Mission High, visit http://tinyurl.com/59w2yt. 

FOOD: Vegetarian lunch will be served for the first 600 people to arrive. In addition, there are restaurants and café’s nearby.

REGISTRATION/WORKSHOPS: will begin at 8:30am, please arrive by 9am! You’ll be able to select a workshop during the morning of the conference, on a first-come, first-served basis.  BE AWARE THAT WORKSHOPS FILL UP QUICKLY.  Please check our website for a current list of the workshops that will be presented: http://t4sj.org (follow the 2009 Conference link).  If there is a workshop you are particularly interested in, come early to register! 

CHILDCARE: Registration for childcare is closed.  The hours are 9am-5pm

SCHEDULE: 

8:30-9:20am               Registration (sorry no coffee or refreshments!)

9:20-10:30am            Opening, Youth Keynote Address: Tyree Moore, Keynote Address: Dr. Pedro Noguera

10:45-12:30am            Morning Workshops*

12:30-1:30pm            Lunch (free and on-site for first 600 participants) – Resource faire at this time with booths by Rethinking Schools and many local organizations!

1:45-3:30pm                 Afternoon Workshops*

3:45-5:00pm                    Closing address: Dr. Jeff Duncan-Andrade.

THIS CONFERENCE IS FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC!

This conference is presented by a group of classroom teachers and community-based educators, without any formal funding outside of individual donations from people like yourselves. We believe that professional development opportunities that are peer-based and rooted in social justice are the most effective and profound.
